Groupe Scolaire La Tendresse

A community-centred school restoring educational opportunity for children affected by conflict and instability.

01 · The school

Education where it was needed most.

Groupe Scolaire La Tendresse was founded by a compassionate Christian family who believed every child deserved access to education, regardless of circumstance.

In a region deeply affected by war and civil unrest, many children had their education interrupted — while others were never able to begin school at all. La Tendresse opened its doors to these “drop-out children.”

A place of welcome, stability, and opportunity.

Despite relocating multiple times due to challenging conditions, the school continues to grow. Today, La Tendresse operates from a modest new campus and began the school year with approximately 125 students and a dedicated team of teachers committed to serving the community.

02 · Compassion & hope

Dignity.
Confidence.
Possibility.

Teachers and school leaders work with extraordinary commitment and care — often with very limited resources — to give children a safe and supportive place to learn.

The school places strong emphasis on compassion, service, resilience, and character — helping students rebuild confidence and discover new opportunities for the future.

03 · Sustainability

Building long-term sustainability.

Rather than relying heavily on outside funding, La Tendresse develops practical community projects that create ongoing support for the school and the families it serves.

  • ·Sewing workshop (2014) - vocational training for young women
  • ·Pineapple & crop farming - supporting school operations
  • ·Community-driven funding - reducing reliance on outside aid
  • ·Practical empowerment - initiative and self-sufficiency

Beyond the classroom, these initiatives plant seeds of independence — for the school, for its young women, and for the broader community.

04 · Impact

Growing through resilience.

La Tendresse has been displaced, rebuilt, and reopened more than once. Each time, the school has returned — quieter, steadier, and more determined to serve the children who need it most.
